Kempton Park and Roodepoort station commanders granted bail

Kempton Park SAPS station commander Brigadier Samuel Maredi and Brigadier Zoleka Khuboni from Roodepoort SAPS face charges of fraud, defeating the ends of justice and contravention of the Firearms Control Act.

Two SAPS station commanders appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court where they were both granted bail.

Brig Samuel Maredi, station commander of Kempton Park SAPS, appeared in court along with Brig Zoleka Khuboni from Roodepoort SAPS.

The road in front of the court was blocked off prior to today’s court appearance by officers from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and other SAPS units.

It is alleged they are implicated in the same case.

Maredi and Khuboni face charges of fraud, defeating the ends of justice and contravention of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60/2000).

They applied for bail which was granted at R3 000 each.

Their next court appearance has been postponed to February 26 in 2021.

Yesterday the Express reported that Brig Vish Naidoo, spokesperson for the SAPS National Commissioner, confirmed that members of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit assisted by the National Anti-Corruption Unit arrested two senior officers, both with the rank of brigadier, in Gauteng.

The road in front of the court was blocked off for today’s court appearance.

“The brigadiers have been arrested for their alleged involvement in fraud, defeating the administration of justice and contravention of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60/2000) in multiple case dockets in the areas of Edenvale, Kempton Park and Norwood,” Naidoo told Express yesterday.
