An intelligence joint operation by the EMPD Northern Region task team members with the SAPS specialised units resulted in 10 suspects being arrested.
This is after a variety of activated bank cards and a reported stolen vehicle were recovered between November 27 and 28 in Thembisa.
On Friday at about 11.45am , the crime-fighting teams raided a guest house situated in Birch Acres and nine suspects were handcuffed.
Cards from Capitec, Standard Bank, Tyme Bank and FNB were recovered at the guesthouse.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on November 24 a Nissan NP200 from a well-known courier service transporting bank cards and electronic gadgets to different destinations was hijacked in the Tongaat area.
It was recovered with the vehicle tracking system.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, the stock worth millions of rands was, however, missing. It is not clear at this stage why the suspects were in possession of the bank cards.
Investigations are ongoing. A charge of possession of stolen items was registered against the suspects, who were booked at the Norkem Park SAPS.
“On November 28 at about 11.15am, the EMPD Northern Region task team intercepted a silver Toyota Etios in Mqantsa section on Sithebe Street.
“The vehicle was found idling on a sidewalk with a woman behind the steering wheel.
“She was apprehended and taken to Thembisa SAPS. A possession of stolen motor vehicle charge was laid against the suspect. The recovered Toyota Etios is impounded at Van Ryn’s Deep (SAPS yard) in Benoni for safekeeping,” said Mokheseng.
The detained 10 suspects are expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
