Protesters block P1 with burning tyres and branches

The protesters demanded to be reinstated following recent retrenchments at Transnet.

Around 50 protesters blocked the P91 between Mooirivier and Pretoria roads this morning with burning tyres and branches.

According to spokesperson for the Norkem Park SAPS, Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira, protesters blocked the road outside the Transnet School of Rail to raise their concerns about recent retrenchments.

“Protesters demanded to be reinstated.”

“Officers from the SAPS and EMPD defused the situation and cleared the road,” she said.
