BOGUS ‘Norkem Park’ police officer targets job seekers

Community Warning: “We want to make it absolutely clear, there is no person by the name of Mr Dlamini employed at Norkem Park SAPS.”

Norkem Park SAPS is warning the community about a scam involving a fraudulent individual falsely claiming to be associated with the South African Police Service.

According to Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira-Dookie, a man identifying himself as “Mr Dlamini” has been contacting individuals who have applied for SAPS vacancies, falsely stating that he is affiliated with Norkem Park SAPS and that he is arranging interviews for police positions.

“We want to make it absolutely clear, there is no person by the name of Mr Dlamini employed at Norkem Park SAPS,” said Ferreira-Dookie.

The scam reportedly involves Mr Dlamini demanding R8 000 from applicants to secure an interview.

Victims are instructed to make an EFT payment using their surname as a reference.

“This is a scam. SAPS does not charge any fees for job interviews or application processes. Job interviews are never conducted at police stations, and no money should ever be paid in exchange for employment opportunities within SAPS,” Ferreira-Dookie emphasised.

Norkem Park SAPS urges anyone who has been contacted by this individual, or who may have made a payment, to report the matter immediately at the nearest police station or contact Norkem Park SAPS directly.

“The South African Police Service takes these types of fraudulent activities seriously and will investigate all reported incidents thoroughly,” Ferreira-Dookie added.

The public is advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity related to SAPS recruitment processes.
