Breakthrough in Mpho Mafole murder case

A warrant of arrest has been issued for a second suspect in the matter, identified by police as Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango.

The Provincial Serious and Violent Crime detectives have made a breakthrough in the murder case of the Chief Auditor for the City of Ekurhuleni, Mpho Mafole, who was shot dead in Kempton Park on June 30.

On July 20, 2025, the investigation team arrested a 40-year-old suspect in connection with the murder.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on July 23.

Meanwhile, police are searching for a second suspect, identified as Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango, after a warrant of arrest was issued for him by the court.

The South African Police Service is urging Mncwango to hand himself over at the nearest police station.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is requested to contact the Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111 or to submit an anonymous tip-off via the MySAPS app, available for download on any smartphone.

On July 1, the City of Ekurhuleni announced the death of Mpho Mafole after he was fatally shot the previous night.

At the time of his death, Mafole was the group divisional head of corporate and group forensic audits at the City of Ekurhuleni.

The incident occurred at around 19:00 on the R23 near the M57 (Pretoria Road) in Esselen Park, Kempton Park.

Authorities closed off the R23 at the M57 as law enforcement and security teams processed the crime scene.

Emergency responders, law enforcement, and members of the Share it Live network worked together at the scene, ensuring safety and supporting Molefe’s distressed family members who had arrived.
