Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

Also recovered were two speed point machines, a sound bar, two plasma televisions, various bank cards and four car keys.

Two male suspects were arrested today, January 15, following an intelligence-driven operation in the Ivory Park area.

The EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit (CLU) officers, working in collaboration with the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit and other stakeholders, arrested the suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen property.

“Officers first proceeded to a residence on Magorogoro Street, where a 31-year-old man was apprehended,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.

She added that after officers explained the purpose of their visit, the suspect consented to a search of the premises.

“During the search, officers discovered a silver 9mm short pistol with defaced serial numbers hidden between the bed base and mattress, along with two live rounds of ammunition.

“Also recovered were two speed point machines, a sound bar, two plasma televisions, various bank cards and four car keys, which the suspect could not account for.”

Officers then moved to a second address in Ivory Park Extension 8, where a 47-year-old man was arrested.

“He was found in possession of an unlicensed silver 6.35 pistol, one magazine and one live round of ammunition. The firearm was confirmed to be stolen and linked to a case opened in Goorsfontein,” said Thepa.
