Local model gets recognition for community work

"I was excited but nothing could compare to the feeling I experienced when I found out that I finally won."

A young model, Boitumelo Phokungwane, was recently nominated for several awards for her community work.

Phokungwane has been helping the community, especially schools with donations for underprivileged learners through her work with the Change in Me Project.

She has donated sanitary pads to girls of Endulweni Primary School and Siziba Primary School aiming to ensure that the girls do not miss out on school because of having their period.

“I received two nominations in the Girl Gang Awards for 2024.

“I was excited but nothing could compare to the feeling I experienced when I found out that I finally won.

“I won the Leadership and Best Charity awards,” said Phokungwane.

Phokungwane added that winning the awards encouraged her to continue helping where possible.

She also recently featured on various radio interviews including WomanRadioSA where she met Yvonne Chaka-Chaka.

“During the interview, we spoke about who I am, my journey, my school and the support that I have.

“Radio hosts also wanted to know why I chose pageantry,” said Phokungwane.

The young model is looking at helping her community through volunteer work, such as helping to clean the community and having reading sessions to help children.

“I would love to encourage all my peers that keep their faces toward the sunshine.

“In life, if you want to get things done or you want to achieve your goals, never wait.

“The most effective way to do anything is to do it and most important, is to include God in everything you do and always be grateful,” she said.
