Kempton Park SPCA benefits from successful Blue Gill fun day fundraiser
Despite a smaller turnout, the Blue Gill SPCA Fun Day generated significant donations to help support rescued and abandoned animals.
Blue Gill Estate and the Kempton Park SPCA hosted a fun day at the Blue Gill Clubhouse on June 6 to raise donations in support of rescued and abandoned animals.
Although attendance was smaller than expected, the event proved to be a great success, with the community donating a substantial amount of food and supplies to assist the SPCA in its ongoing work.
“The Blue Gill community generously donated more than 600kg of dog and cat food. Airport Pets also contributed over 200kg of dog food, cat food and treats.

“Joyful Pets hosted a pop-up shop where residents purchased additional food and bedding to donate to the SPCA on the day,” said Blue Gill Estate manager Elda Weideman.

The event featured a variety of pet-friendly activities for owners and their furry companions. Amanda Vermeulen and Javone Lewis of the Kempton Park SPCA served as judges for the day’s competitions.
Entertainment was provided by Angel the DJ, whose performances added to the lively atmosphere and community spirit.
“The community generously donated a variety of items for both cats and dogs, including pet food, treats and bedding.
“These donations will help provide comfort, nourishment and care for animals in need, and the support received was greatly appreciated by the SPCA.

“The community within Blue Gill Estate, Airport Pets and Angel all played a significant role,” Weideman added.
According to Weideman, the SPCA continues to face several challenges, including limited funding and resources, overcrowding resulting from abandoned and surrendered animals, and rising costs associated with food, veterinary care, medication, and shelter maintenance.
She said the organisation relies heavily on donations and community support to provide adequate nutrition, medical treatment, safe accommodation and adoption opportunities for animals in its care.
“We would like to thank everyone who supported the SPCA Fun Day through donations, attendance and encouragement. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, makes a real difference in the lives of animals in need.
“We encourage the community to continue supporting animal welfare initiatives by donating, volunteering, adopting pets and promoting responsible pet ownership. Together, we can help ensure more cats and dogs receive the care, protection and loving homes they deserve,” said Weideman.
Residents can continue supporting the Kempton Park SPCA by attending its upcoming event on July 25 or by donating plastic pallets for dogs to sleep on.
