Kickboxer off to Mauritius
Michael Lovemore (14) from Birch Acres, has been selected to represent South Africa at an international kickboxer tournament in Mauritius from July 17-25.

This event is recognised and endorsed by both SAAKA (South African Amateur Kickboxing Association) and WAKO (World Amateur Kickboxing Organisation).
Michael is currently the South African champion in the U/42kg in the light continuous mode. He also holds the title for free form weapons kata. He has won the light contact and semi contact mode in three of the previous SA championships as well. Michael started his kickboxing career in late 2007 with Sensei Eddie Theron.
Hehas diligently worked his way up to purple belt. He has excelled in all his tournaments (inter club, inter provincial and other style invitational), and has received his provincial colours for five years in succession. He has attended the South African championships four times, each time earning his place in the national team with multiple gold and silver medals in light continuous, semi continuous and kata.
Michael currently holds 35 gold medals, 22 silver medals among a host of trophies he has earned. Michael’s dad, Rowan Lovemore (47), joined kickboxing with Sensei Eddie Theron at the same time as Michael. Rowan began officiating at tournaments in 2009, first as table official, then side judge and then centre referee.
Rowan earned his Eastern Gauteng Provincial colours for refereeing in 2011 and has also been invited to referee internationally at the same event in Mauritius, representing South Africa in the Presidential team.
