Cosmos is back
Ephraim 'Jomo' Sono's team, Jomo Cosmos, will play all their home games at the Makhulong Stadium this year.

During an exclusive interview with The Tembisan, Sono said immediately after being promoted to the PSL two seasons ago, they wanted to play their PSL games in Tembisa, but the PSL’s committee that looks after stadiums said the fence at the stadium was not up to standard and had to be fixed.
“We were disappointedand we hoped that by the time we returned to the PSL, the fence would have been fixed because we wanted to bring the PSL games to our supporters in Tembisa,” he said.
He said they have assembled a good squad that will make a big impact in the league this year. When asked if he is going to win the league, he said he does not want to blow his own horn.
“It is not about me alone, it is about the whole team as a collective, but we really do have a good squad.”
He said when they played their first game, six players could not play because of work permits and registrations with the league.
“But three strikers are available for selection because they have received their work permits,” he said.
Sono then went down memory lane, recalling the time when he played with the Brazilian soccer genius Pele, and when he beat Moses Khanyeza from a penalty kick in the finals of the Mainstay Cup in 1980. When the South African Black Eleven walloped the then-Rhodesia 6-0, the Black Prince, as he is also affectionally called, scored four goals.
He said he was honoured to have played alongside Pele.
“It was just unfortunate that we could not play in the World Cup because of obvious reasons. We had players like the late Ace Ntsoeleng, Patson Banda, Phil Tsoseng and more. We we untouchable,” he said.
About the penalty he took against Swallows’ Khanyeza, he said he saw how Pele took penalties during their days.
“I learnt that from Pele. Those were the good old days,” he concluded.
