Makang Supers FC is the MFLA champions

Chairperson of the MFLA Bob Maredi said this was great season of football for the association.

Makang Supers FC were crowned the Midrand Football League Association (MFLA) League champions at the Rabie Ridge Stadium on June 9. They held Spoilers FC to a 1-1 draw.

Makang needed a draw to win the championships and have now been promoted to play in the SAB League next season.

The match which started at 3pm, saw Makang Supers FC take control of hostilities. They dominated the match, but their efforts fizzled away without scoring. Just before half time , Spoilers FC were denied a scoring opportunity with the ball hitting the post and cleared out of the danger zone. The threatening ball came from the boot of Avuyile ‘Chillies’ Mancasa, a spot kick from just outside the penalty area. Half time score was 0-0.

At the start of second half, the Ivory Park-based Makang Supers FC had fans cheering. They displayed an exciting blend of football.

But Spoilers FC held their own, and continued to pressure the opposition defence, and again began to dominate the second half.

In the 73rd minute, Makang Super FC took the lead through Phillip Mabitsela. However, it must be said that Makang Supers FC goal came as a result of poor defending. It would be a matter of time before Spoilers FC levelled up matters. Mancasa’s attacks paid off when he equalised 10 minutes after his side had conceded a goal to make the score 1-1.

Chairperson of the MFLA Bob Maredi said this was great season of football for the association.

“Congratulations to Supers FC. They deserved it. The league was supposed to finish two weeks ago, but we could not because of reported cases which were handled by the disciplinary committee,” said Maredi.

“We are proud as the MFLA to award the title to Makang Supers FC. They played well and we hope they will represent us well in the SAB League.”

Runners-up Spoilers FC were awarded bronze medals and R2 000 cash prizes as third runners-up on the log. The second prize was awarded to Mighty Stars with R3 000 cash prize and silver medals. The champions, Makang Super FC, won a grand prize of R5 000, a trophy and gold medals.

Makang Supers FC players celebrated their title victory with their fans.

“We stuck to our game plan throughout the match and we knew that they would park the bus and wait for us to come to them because they needed either a draw or a win,” said Bongani Letswalo, Spoilers FC assistant coach.

“In the second half we wanted to add strength to the midfielders by sacrificing Xolani Skhosana. After we equalised, we knew we had to be mentally fit to stay strong in the game. The boys fought until the last whistle. I cannot take anything from them,” added Letswalo.

Makang Supers FC coach Michael “Msheke” Madolo was happy with their performance.

“For two years we have been chasing after this title, and we finally got it.

“In the second half we got a goal and had to protect it, but they equalised so we had to absorb pressure and try to stop them from getting a second one,” said Madolo.

Mighty Stars FC were awarded their silver medals as the league runners-ups.

Coach of Spoilers FC Sihle Zwane received the second prize and bronze medals from the MFLA chairperson, Bob Maredi.
