Pandemic hasn’t slowed bowling clubs roll

Despite the long-lasting effects of the pandemic, Modderfontein Bowling Club continues to thrive and looks forward to growing its members.

Despite the long-lasting effects of the pandemic, Modderfontein Bowling Club continues to thrive and looks forward to growing its members.

The club recently completed phase one of renovations of the clubhouse which saw the lounge, dining hall and bar area receive some much-needed attention.

Phase two of the renovations will see the club focus on renovating the club’s kitchen and bathroom.

Club president Carol Gaynham said the club is more than a bowling club and includes aspects of a social club as well.

“We are a cosy friendly club and welcoming club with a lot of history,” said Carol.

To attract new members the club hosts several social bowling days and has several coaches who can provide lessons.

Social bowls are played on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday afternoon and over the weekend if there are no games scheduled.

The days give community members, especially the elderly who may not have anything to do, the opportunity to get out of the house and socialise.

In addition to the social bowls, the club is set to host several ends of bowls on October 10 when the new season starts.

A week afterwards it will host a general knowledge pub quiz on October 16.

Committee member Linda Winslow said other activities the club is considering hosting includes dart nights and bridge games.

“We look forward to welcoming new members and players into our ranks and making them part of the Modderfontein Bowling Club family,” said Carol.
