Kempton Park cricketer represented SA in Barbados

“LMS SA is also considering organising a quadruple series for next year March or April to be hosted in Nelspruit between the South Africa, Australia, England and New Zealand masters sides.“

Kempton Park resident Rudi Potgieter recently had the opportunity to represent South Africa at the LMS Masters World Cup in Barbados.

The South African team won the tournament’s silver medal.

“It was an amazing experience and a very proud moment in my life.

“It was a little bitter-sweet because we aimed for gold,” said Potgieter.

Rudi Potgieter was the man of the match.

Potgieter said he comes from a sports-orientated family and started playing cricket at the age of seven while in primary school.

“We are a ball and sports-crazy family; always very competitive. I am also a golfer,” he said.

“I love playing cricket because of the ability to contribute to your team to stand the best possible chance of winning, with either a batting, bowling or fielding effort.”

LMS or Last Man Stands is an eight-man T20 format of cricket.

Rudi Potgieter said he is proud of the South African team and the performances of all the individuals.

During the game, the bowler only bowls a maximum of four overs that consist of five balls each.

“There are a couple of exciting and interesting rules,” he said.

Potgieter was the man of the match, number one batsman and fifth-best all-rounder of the World Cup.

“I had a goal and said to my family and friends. I was aiming high and aiming for players of the tournament as I had to prove a point to a couple of people.

“I have worked hard for this opportunity and believe the time was right,” added Potgieter.

He said he was aiming and fighting for a spot in the World Championship tournament, which will take place in Australia in December.

He said the next LMS Masters World Cup will be in 2025, but the country hosting it has not been announced yet.

“LMS SA is also considering organising a quadruple series for next year March or April in Nelspruit between South Africa, Australia, England and New Zealand masters sides,” he said.

Potgieter was the man of match, number one batsman and the number five all-rounder in the tournament.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Lord for the talent, health and mostly my understanding and patient wife, children and family.”

Potgieter said he is proud of the South African team and the performances of all the individuals.

He also thanked his personal sponsors for contributing and making this trip of a lifetime possible.
