Kruinsig kicks off community spirit at annual rugby & netball tournament

The event brought the entire Kempton Park community together for a day of outdoor family fun day.

Laerskool Kruinsig came alive with energy and school spirit on June 7, hosting its much-anticipated annual Kruinsig Valkie Rugby and Mini Netball Tournament.

The event brought together young athletes, families, and supporters from across Kempton Park for a day of sports and community celebration.

Tournament organisers Simonè Venter and Zack le Roux said the event is more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of development, teamwork, and healthy living.

“The goal is to nurture a love for the game in younger players while encouraging physical development, which supports mental health and academic performance,” explained Le Roux.

The tournament, a longstanding Kruinsig tradition, forms part of a regional rotation of school-hosted events over four to five weeks.

“Kruinsig has proudly hosted this event for decades. It showcases our learners’ hard work and the strong community spirit within our school,” said Le Roux.

Recognising early interest in sport, the school provides a supportive platform where parents and teachers guide and encourage this passion.

“While we offer a variety of sports and cultural activities, this tournament highlights our commitment to developing netball and rugby at the grassroots level,” he added.

“At Kruinsig, academics and cultural activities always take priority. Our learners must meet these responsibilities before participating in sport,” Le Roux explained.

“We maintain balance by limiting the sports season and holding structured training twice a week.”

Venter echoed this, noting the dedication of the teaching staff.

“At Kruinsig, teaching is not just a job—it’s a calling. Our teachers genuinely care for the children, and that passion shines through at events like these.”

Venter added that while the day featured plenty of competitive action, scores and logs were not recorded.

“What matters most is that the boys and girls enjoy themselves and learn the value of teamwork, effort, and fun.”

Hosting the final tournament of the season brought its expectations.

“The schools before us did an incredible job hosting, so there was pressure to deliver a great finale,” said Venter.

“But with hard work from our staff, support from parents, and enthusiasm from the players, we turned the day into a great success. We’re proud of what we achieved together.”
