Tembisa High dominate Berthary in 4–0 Phylli’s Games win

Goals from Thando Mdaweni, Simphiwe Hlabisa and Amahle Mhlambi helped Tembisa High secure a comfortable 4–0 victory over Berthary School.

Tembisa High proved far too strong for Berthary School, cruising to a dominant 4–0 victory in the Phylli’s Games school tournament on August 14 at Mehlareng Square 2 sports ground in Thembisa.

The match kicked off at a blistering pace, with Tembisa High immediately taking control.

Their breakthrough came within the first 10 minutes when Thando Mdaweni finished off a slick team move.

Mdaweni doubled the lead shortly after, piling pressure on Berthary.

Before the half-hour mark, Simphiwe Hlabisa made it 3–0, and just before the break, Amahle Mhlambi netted the fourth to put the game firmly out of reach.

Berthary looked unsettled in the first half, struggling to match Tembisa High’s pace and attacking power. The early goals left them chasing the game long before the half-time whistle.

After the break, Berthary showed more composure, creating a few opportunities, but they failed to seriously test Tembisa High’s goalkeeper.

The home side shifted gears, controlling possession and tightening their defence to protect their comfortable lead.

The atmosphere at the ground was electric, with supporters cheering on every Tembisa attack. Despite Berthary’s efforts to find a consolation goal, Tembisa High’s defence held firm until the final whistle.

Coach Mashabela Stout praised her side’s performance and confirmed their focus is now on the semi-final.

“Tembisa High will proceed to the semi-finals of the Phylli’s Games, where we’ll face Winnie Mandela Secondary,” she said.

Berthary coach Pearl Sinto admitted her side struggled but was encouraged by their second-half display.

The result keeps Tembisa High’s unbeaten run alive, cementing their status as one of the favourites to reach the final.

Their semi-final clash against Winnie Mandela Secondary will take place on August 28 at Mehlareng Square 2, with kick-off at 13:30.
