Kempton Park and Cradle BMX riders shine in club race ahead of SA Nationals

From nail-biting first motos to dominant final rounds, the event highlighted rising talent and fierce competition.

BMX riders from Kempton Park BMX Club and Cradle BMX Club brought their A-game on September 13, competing in a club race that also served as preparation for the SA Nationals in October.

The competition began with three crucial motos, leading up to the final round that determined winners for each class.

For many, especially first-time racers, the first moto was nerve-wracking, but excitement and energy filled the track.

“I was a bit nervous coming out of the gate the first time, but after a couple of rounds it became easier. At times, it feels challenging, but mostly it’s just fun. I’m proud of myself for coming first in all rounds on my first race.”

The 14 Expert group faced initial challenges, but other categories got underway with enthusiasm. Riders began to find their rhythm in the second moto, with some maintaining first-place positions heading into the final.

Reagan Mellon from Cradle BMX Club, winner of the 14 Expert class, said the race was fun.

“I used it as practice for the SA Nationals. Hard work paid off, and I managed to come first in all rounds. My opponents performed well, but the race went smoothly.”

As the final motos approached, riders gave their all. Christian Kaschula (9 Expert) and Matthew Sears (12 Expert) from Kempton Park BMX Club dominated their classes, finishing first throughout all three motos.

Meanwhile, Alex Whitehead of Cradle BMX Club claimed victory in the 25 & Over Men group.

“The race went well without any issues. Winning is always special, but I’m looking forward to challenging Alex Limberg next. Today was definitely enjoyable, especially hitting the triple into the first turn in the final moto.”
