“My dad encouraged me to run while he was training for Comrades. He has always run marathons and it became a way for us to bond. I started running with him more than 15 years ago. Everyone at the club inspired me to do Comrades this year, and I am training for it now,” she said.

“The run was great, especially with the cooler weather and the fun vibe from so many people. Running is good for my mental health.
“They say depression can’t hit a moving target, and for me, that is true. Running keeps me sane and helps me deal with everyday life as a mom and a working woman.”
Four runners completed the event as novices for the first time. This year, the club aims to increase its Comrades contingent to 45 runners, including 13 novices.
Long-time runner Allan Ziervogel, who returned to running eight months ago after a break, said his daughter motivated him to lace up his shoes again.

“When I was younger, my whole family was involved in running. I started at school, doing 1km and 10km races, and before you know it, you are training for your first marathon and then Comrades.
“I ran Comrades in 1993. Recently, my daughter started running again, which encouraged me to return. I really enjoyed the race, the spirit was great, and the club members are supportive,” he said.
