Krugersdorp unit helps bust suspects in Jumpers massacre probe

Police, with support from Krugersdorp TRT, have arrested three suspects linked to the Jumpers mass shooting.

Members of the Krugersdorp Tactical Response Team (TRT) were among the specialised SAPS units deployed to assist in the investigation following a mass shooting at Jumpers Informal Settlement on the East Rand on June 9, which claimed 13 lives and left 14 people injured.

Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, said additional resources were mobilised to ensure those responsible were brought to justice.

A multidisciplinary team, including the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, the Provincial Tracking Team, Krugersdorp TRT, and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), subsequently cracked the case, leading to the arrest of three suspects on Tuesday, June 23.

According to Mthombeni, intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of three Lesotho nationals at the KwaMaiMai Informal Settlement. One of the suspects was found in possession of more than 100 rounds of 9mm live ammunition at his residence.

Investigations are ongoing as police continue to search for additional suspects linked to the case. The trio, aged 26, 32 and 36, are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder.
