From new lights, refurbished bathrooms and an extra room and security on site to ensure safety, the building is now open to the public.
Various municipal officials also attended the event as the building was recognised as a municipal building.
Last August, the Heart and Soul non-profit organisation led the effort to restore the building, calling on all residents and community members to lend a hand in reviving the building’s former glory.
It was confirmed by Mogale City Local Municipality communications manager Adrian Amod that the municipality was open to confronting the numerous challenges experienced with the hall, which among other issues include crime, drugs, poverty and squatting.
After engagements and site visits, which included relevant municipal sections such as legal services, real estate, building maintenance, and West Rand District Environmental Health, the foundation submitted a detailed proposal, which eventually led to the renovations.

The municipality’s legal services team was roped in to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding between the municipality and the foundation, which will detail the roles and responsibilities of both parties. It set the tone for the required work to be done before the full operation of the rehabilitation of the hall. The agreement will also be made public for the awareness of the community, stakeholders and interested parties.
The facility was finally opened and recognised as a municipal building as Mogale’s Utility Management Services manager Peter Modise unveiled a plaque for the building.

Adrian confirmed that the building will be a multi-purpose center that will provide services to the community, such as early childhood development, aftercare programmes, psychological support, skills development and drug rehabilitation facilitation. Some of the programs will be in line with the Social Development strategic objectives and will address the current social ills in the community of Krugersdorp West.
Residents and organisations will be required to book the venue through MCLM’s Utility Management Department.
