Alma Mater hosts gravity race spectacle
Johan Jonker Drive in Wentworth Park is being transformed into a raceway on July 3 and 4 as gravity-powered cars compete in a unique school challenge.
With nothing but gravity to power them, homemade race cars are taking to Johan Jonker Drive this weekend as Alma Mater International School hosts its first Gravity Race.
The event, taking place from July 3 to 4, sees learners racing gravity-powered cars they designed and built themselves.
According to event co-ordinator Henri Vermeulen, schools from across the country are taking part in the competition.

“There are schools from all across the country taking part in this event,” he said.
Vermeulen invited the community to attend the races and enjoy the market. Visitors can enter through the school’s main entrance, where they will be directed to the designated parking area.
Racing continues until about 15:00 today and resumes on July 4 from 08:00 to 16:00.
