Bad planning leads to unhappy residents

Are residents from a certain part of Munsieville so important that they deserve all services on their door step

It is no secret that residents of Ward 27 Munsieville Extension 4 (Mayibuye) and Extension 2 ( Phatsima) are unhappy with service delivery because most services are located in Ward 24, which is a distance from their area, especially for Mayibuye residents.

“How do you explain the fact that all municipal services are located in one single ward and that the other two wards are ignored like this?” asks DA Councillor Lawrence Shabalala.

The two primary schools, Diphalane and Phatudi are situated in Ward 24, as are the library, police station, the Munsieville Clinic, the dental clinic, community hall and the Munsieville Stadium.

“As a community we appreciate that we have all these facilities but the municipality should ensure that its planning is more balanced. I am raising this issue because concentrating these services in a single ward is not right.”

Munsieville Park, that is to receive a R3 million renovation, is also in Ward 24 and the centre for the aged, which is currently being built, is on the boundary of Ward 24.

“We are thankful for these facilities but would love to have something in Ward 27. It was so sad to hear during the recent IDP roadshow, one of the members of the ANC Mayoral Committee’s response to a resident’s question: ‘Mayibuye residents should stop acting as if they are not part of Munsieville but should use services in Ward 24 as they are also part of Munsieville’.

“I agree that residents should use the services but the municipality must be aware that residents have no choice but to go long distances to get to those services. Are residents from a certain part of Munsieville so important that they deserve all services on their door step? The municipality must reconsider this,” is the Councillor’s challenge to the municipality.
