Adopt a furry friend at Fora
Lots of animals are still waiting to find forever homes.
Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) is encouraging the community to come and have a look at all the friendly, cute and fluffy animals they have at the shelter just waiting to be adopted, and in return find their forever homes.
Fora currently is looking after 320 dogs and 120 cats and as space is limited at the shelter and because of financial constraints they only can take in new pets once the pets at the shelter get new owners.

“It is really difficult to keep our heads above water and without the constant help from the community we will not become as successful as we hope to be,” says Dion Harper, the new shelter manager.
“As it is the winter season the animals tend to eat a lot more. We sometimes go through a ton of pet food a week, which makes it a challenge each day to meet the demand.”
He says besides dog food they also require blankets to keep the animals warm.
People who wish to adopt a new furry friend are advised to visit Fora and see an adoption consultant. There they will fill out a form after which there will be a house check to make sure that the animal will be living in a friendly, stable and safe environment.
The costs to adopt a dog is R600 and for a cat it is R400.
“These costs are necessary as the animals have been sterilised, dewormed and received all the necessary injections. It is still a competitive price as these services are slightly more expensive at a regular veterinarian,” explains Harper.

People who are unable to keep pets have the option of volunteering at the shelter to care for the pets, take them out for walks and play with them.
“That would mean the world to these animals and would also make it easier for an animal such as a dog to be socially active and adapt in a new environment when being adopted,” says Harper.
Community members are welcome to make any contribution to Fora and ask what their donations have been used for.
