Megan wants to read to the blind
Twenty-one-year-old Krugersdorper wants to do her bit for the community by reading to the blind.
Twenty-one-year-old Megan du Preez asked herself what could someone her age do to make a difference in the community.
Megan decided to do her bit for humanity by reading to the blind in her spare time.
“Reading is the one thing that I am good at,” says Megan. She is offering her services to blind people to whom she can read on a weekly basis.
Although Megan approached many charity organisations in the Krugersdorp area to offer her services, she was turned away.
Many of these organisations simply ignored her gesture.
“Reading to the blind would be just a small contribution, but it is what I want to do.”
After many failed attempts Megan felt disappointed, and considered advertising her free service.
“I want to read to people who are not able to enjoy a movie or read a book, and otherwise have to learn to read braille.”
Among Megan’s favourites to read are works by authors such as Jane Austin, Bronte, Hemmingway, Shakespeare, Dickens and several poets.
“I am willing to read anything from fiction and drama to scriptures – whatever the person prefers.”
Megan is available to read from Mondays to Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm and on Fridays from 10am to 12pm.
For more information or to contact Megan email her on megantdup@gmail or on 076 7288 417.
“I always had a passion for reading, and this is my way of giving back,” concludes Megan.
