Corruption exposed in WRDM

The municipality has opened a criminal case against the officials with the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.

The West Rand District Municipality has unearthed rot and corrupt activities, which is believed to have been ongoing since 2005 or even earlier.

After introducing the new financial management systems to monitor the income and expenditure of the municipality, the municipal manager found discrepancies and financial irregularities in the municipality’s Finance Department. Suspected Finance officials have been suspended and others decided to resign after the exposure of this corrupt activities, which amounts to about R15 million that was traced to personal accounts.

The municipality has opened a criminal case against the officials with the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.

One of the officials appeared briefly in court on 13 August on charges of financial mismanagement and corruption.

The case was postponed to 2 September for further investigation.
