The West Rand District Municipality hosted a Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa (PWMSA) Young Women IT Certification ceremony on 17 August.
This event was part of the celebration of Women’s Month and the PWMSA saw it necessary to provide 32 IT graduates certificares as they have been on an Information Technology skills development course sponsored by the BYTES People Solution for almost a year.
The programme was championed by the MMC for Sports, Recreation and Social Development, Councillor Pascalina Kgoleng and the graduation ceremony was graced by the District Executive Mayor Mpho Nawa.
Alwyn van der Linde of BYTES People Solution gave an overview of their social responsibility programme.
“Today we pay tribute to the women of South Africa because of the central role they played in liberating this country. These heroines did not merely play a supporting role to men, they acted as a conscious and militant force of the liberation struggle, even sacrificing their own lives so that we could be free,” said Mayor Nawa during his address.
“The IT graduates have many opportunities ahead of them, as the transformation of the economy continues in earnest to ensure that all South Africans, especially young women participate fully.
“No matter how your parents and your government always strove to send you to school, education is one instrument that would extricate our people from poverty. Congratulations to the PWMSA in the West Rand Region and our parents and the sponsors. BYTES, we extend our sincere thanks to you all.”
