Noordheuwel still dry

It seems that residents of Noordheuwel are still without water.

It seems that most of the town’s water disruption problem has ended, except for Noordheuwel.

Furious residents are demanding answers from council and Noordheuwel’s ward councillor Lynn Pannall says she does not know what to do anymore.

“Someone is not telling us what is going on,” says Pannall.

“All I have been told is that they are investigating as to why some parts of Noordheuwel do not have any water, while the rest of the town’s flow seems to be back to normal.”

According to the reliable source who alerted looklocal of the problem on Wednesday 11 September, Rand Water is still the culprit.

The source says that they are not supplying any water to Noordheuwel at the moment, but according the Rand Water’s media liaison, the situation is under control.

“Residents are furious and hostile since there are only a limited few getting supplied with water,” says Pannall.

Town’s taps running dry – again

A reliable source informed the NEWS that Krugersdorp’s taps are running dry again because Rand Water (that supplies the town’s water) is “switching off” their water supply to the town.

The source could not give any indication as to why the water supply would be disrupted, but could confirm that by close of business today, residents would return home to no water.

This after Mogale City experienced another major water supply disruption last week after a pipe burst left the reservoir to run dry and thousands of Noordheuwel residents and those from surrounding areas pulling their unwashed hair from their heads.

The source said that Executive Mayor Calvin Seerane is currently in talks with Rand Water to resolve the issue. The NEWS immediately contacted Rand Water’s media office to confirm the situation.

According to Justice Mohale, Rand Water’s Media Relations Manager their reservoirs in the area still had sufficient water this morning when their maintenance was completed.

“Rand Water would like to inform the NEWS that it has good relations with Mogale City Municipality and there is no dispute between the two parties. Rand Water has planned the water shutdown in order to repair F35 water pipeline. The maintenance work started yesterday (10 September), and the engineers worked throughout the night and completed the repairs by 8am this morning.”

Numerous telephone calls to the NEWS confirm that areas such as Noordheuwel, Kenmare, Rant-en-Dal, Krugersdorp North as well as Munsieville currently do not have any water.

Comment has been requested from municipal spokesperson Nkosana Zali. None has been forthcoming.
