Pupils’ artwork exhibited

The Mogale City Museum turned into an art gallery for a day on Saturday 12 October to showcase the artwork of talented pupils from 15 school districts in the Gauteng province.
Thabitha Mabatha, the subject advisor for Arts and Culture says that the Visual Arts Exhibition is an annual event catering for schools from the Gauteng West District and saw the work by pupils as far as Pretoria being exhibited.
“At the event, which was organised by Mashifane Makunyane, the Arts and Culture coordinator at the Gauteng Provincial Department of Education exhibited the works of some Grade 6 to 9 pupils excelling in Arts and Culture.”
She says that these type of exhibitions are held to show pupils that they are able to make a living off their art and that mathematics is not the only subject needed to make a success of one’s life.
“Although mathematics is applied in creating artwork, such as doing measurements, one still can become something in life. Mathematics and science always are given preference above other subjects and yet we have so many talented artists in our schools.”
