Community apprehend house robbers

One suspect allegedly ordered that the house owner be attacked and killed.

Two housebreaking suspects where chased and caught by members of the community in Swanieville. The incident occurred yesterday 20 October at about 4.50am.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says that the complainant was asleep at home when two armed men entered his bedroom.

“The complainant heard someone whispering next to his bed, and he noticed one suspect armed with a sharp object and the other with an axe.”

One suspect allegedly ordered that the complainant be attacked and killed, but the complainant jumped up and grabbed one of the suspects, after which a struggle for the weapon ensued.

Sibiya says the suspect was overpowered, and the complainant was able to scream for help.

“Members of the community came to his rescue and the suspect was arrested and assaulted while his accomplice fled the scene.”

He says that the members of the community gave chase and he also was apprehended and assaulted.

“The police was informed and after the suspects had been treated for their injuries at a local hospital, they were handed over to the police.”

A case docket of house robbery has been registered and the suspects will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
