The Hawks in Gauteng are appealing to victims of fraud escalating to millions of rands allegedly committed by the owners of Parkman Car Sales operating in Market Street, to come forward.
According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini victims might be from areas on the West Rand to as far as Pretoria.
“Some victims, however can not be traced on their last known addresses,” he adds.
Explaining the modus operandi Dlamini says that the victims who wanted to sell their vehicles were told to park their vehicles at the dealer’s premises.
“The vehicles would be sold on their behalf and the dealers then would take the money and never pay the owners of the vehicles,” he says.
Police also found that a number of vehicles were sold to several clients before being registered in the last owner’s name.
“The case of fraud was registered in Krugersdorp during September 2013 but the fraudulent deals may date back to several months.”
Possible victims are urged to contact the Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Johannesburg.
Investigating officer Captain Jan Judeel can be contacted on 082 319 9444 or office no 011 870 5338 at all hours.
