Cellphone robber apprehended

A teenager was apprehended by the community of Kagiso after stealing a cellphone.

A 17-year-old Kagiso teenager was arrested by Hospital View residents for cellphone theft. The incident occurred on 3 November at about 11pm.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says the teenager attacked another boy with an unknown object to the back of his head and stole his BlackBerry smartphone and fled the scene.

The boy, who was playing with his two cousins at the time of the incident yelled for help whereby members of the community responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect.

“The suspect was taken to the police station and handed over to the police. The cellphone that he had stolen from the boy also was recovered.”

A case docket of robbery was opened at the Kagiso Police Station and the suspect was transferred to Bosasa Youth Rehabilitation Centre in Krugersdorp.
