Local ranch to host swimming champs

There will be special medals and prize money for the top three in each category and medals for all swimmers who finish.

The NTS Open Water (OW) Championships will be hosted by Time Freight and Heia Safari on Lake Heritage on 30 November and 1 December.

The NTS OW Championships are a sanctioned SSA event and afford all affiliate/ SSA-registered swimmers the opportunity to qualify for selection in the SA National OW Championships to be held in March 2014.

NTS organisers comment, “We are delighted to host this event at Heia and believe it is an appropriate opportunity to convey our sincere appreciation to Wayne Riddin and his team, as well as Gaby Burgmer at the Heia Safari Ranch for accommodating NTS for the third successive year.

“The event is also a seeding event for the Midmar Mile 2014 as well as a selection for the Gauteng OW Championships. It provides an ideal opportunity for NTS swimmers and other athletes to qualify for selection for nationals if they have not done so already,” says Gerald Goles NTS Open Swimming Chairperson.

There will be special medals and prize money for the top three in each category and medals for all swimmers who finish.

NTS Championships will cater for the 10km and 7,5km, (the 7,5km is to be swum concurrently with the 10km), 5km and 3km events.

NTS has extended an invitation also to other SSA affiliates to afford them and their OW swimmers the opportunity to qualify for their prospective provincial teams for 2014, should they need to make use of the event.

The events will be run by PMB Sports Promotions and all timing/ technical support will be supported electronically. The elite events will be run strictly according to Fina OW Rules and NTS will provide the officials for both on 30 November and 1 December.

Affiliate provinces and NTS clubs/ coaches should arrange with their swimmers and/ or parents to enter their swimmers online at www.midmarmile.co.za.

The closing date for entries is 27 November.
