Two hijackings were reported to have taken place in Monument in a time span of two weeks and residents are urged to be vigilant when driving in the area.
During the most recent incident a man was driving on Shannon Road when two males approached either sides of his vehicle.
According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale the suspect opened the doors of the car and forced the man out of his vehicle with a firearm.
The suspects were later traced and arrested by police in Benoni.
“The vehicle was also recovered through tracking company Tracker and could be returned to the owner,” says Mashale.
“This was a success story, but not all drivers are as lucky and residents are urged to be extra aware of their surroundings when at a stop sign or traffic light,” she says.
She reminds drivers to keep their doors locked at all times.
