Man arrested for robbing couple

Allegedly he was one of three suspects armed with firearms who held them at gunpoint.

A 28-year-old man who is accused of robbing a couple in Zulu Jump, Kagiso has been arrested on 19 November, 14 days after the incident.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says it is alleged that on 5 November at about 10.15am a man and his wife were surprised by three armed men entering their home.

“All three suspects were armed with firearms and two of them wore balaclavas. They held the couple at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the floor.”

Sibiya says that they demanded money and two of the suspects proceeded to the couple’s bedroom where they took an undisclosed amount of cash, two Samsung cellphones and clothes.

“The robbers demanded the keys to the complainant’s grey Volkswagen Golf 5 which they used to flee the scene.”

Sibiya says the property stolen is estimated to be worth around R110 000.

“Luckily no one was injured during the robbery and no shots were fired,” confirms Sibiya.

The complainant managed to identify the suspect and informed the police of his whereabouts, and the police followed up on the information and arrested the suspect.

“Two more suspects are still at large and police investigations are continuing.”

The arrested suspect has been detained and charged with house robbery at the Kagiso Police Station and made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
