Rural school athletes compete at the top
Six of Phatudi Primary school's athletes will strut their stuff at the D2 championships.
Six middle-distance athletes from Phatudi Primary school in Munsieville proved that so-called rural schools can compete at the top after qualifying for the D2 championships recently.
According to coach and deputy principal Moffat Molefe the athletes proved that they are a force to be reckoned with and made the school extremely proud during the qualifying rounds.
The athletes and the items they qualified in include:
• Phemelo Kgwediaphuku U/13: 1 500m and 800m
• Seoposenqwe Realeboga U/13:1 500m and 800m
• Thadedi Resego U/12: 1 200m
• Baxolile Rakhusu U/12: 1 200m
• Patricia Ndcovu U/12: 1 200m
• Makgeta Lekatou U/10: 1 200m
The athletes continue to be trained by Moffat together with experts from the Kopana Athletics Club in Munsieville.
Phatudi Primary School boasts a very active sports culture and is responsible for identifying and developing young stars such as Munsieville’s very own Lucas Masobela who in the past represented South Africa in the junior championships.
Although the school excels in identifying and developing young talent, they still are lacking in terms of sponsorships, especially for their cross-country athletes.
