A dash of egg-citement

Over 800 children delved into more than 20 000 Easter eggs on Monument Primary School's rugby field.

More than 800 children could not contain their excitement after being told they were allowed to delve into thousands of Easter eggs. Laughter and shouts of joy echoed on Monument Primary School’s rugby field where children from Grades R to 7 gathered.

There 76 members of the Real Life Church in green T-shirts called the Green Army entertained them until a West Rand District Municipality fire truck arrived, delivering not only the 22 000 Easter eggs the church collected, but also bringing various well-known movie characters along.

Sulley Sullivan, a friendly blue and furry monster from the movie Monster Inc, Disney characters Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and a Minion from Despicable Me helped to build up the excitement until the moment the children were allowed onto the field to collect as many Easter eggs as they could.

Some children ran onto the field with arms wide open and started collecting their chocolate treats. Those who quickly filled the bags that were provided made other plans to get more eggs.

Within a minute the thousands of eggs that had taken the church about two months to collect found their new owners.

Pastor Zelda Wood says that it is the second time that they held this event and are planning to do this annually.

It was a race to collect as many Easter eggs as possible when over 800 children took to Monument Primary School's rugby field.

“We want to wow the children of Krugersdorp. I think we managed to do that again this year as we have more than doubled the 10 000 Easter eggs we collected last year.”

“I really am proud of our team who pulled off yet another successful event. We also thank Mark Moore, principal of Monument Primary School for allowing us again to use their grounds. Easter is a great time. It is a time to celebrate new life and new beginnings.”

A photo booth was set up during the day and parents and children who were photographed can download these pictures from the Church’s website at www.reallifechurch.org.za.
