New library brings new hope

Residents from Kagiso now have educational tools and services at their doorstep.

In an effort to sustain education, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, under the guidance of MEC Lebogang Maile recently embarked on constructing six libraries across Gauteng.

Two areas were identified in Mogale City, being Tartlon and Kagiso Extension 12.

The library in Kagiso was opened to the public on Wednesday 30 April.

According to a statement by the department the modern library billed at R6 million is aimed at improving the social, cultural and economic conditions of the area and also at inculcating the culture of reading and learning.

This first-of-its-kind library will give the community a doorway to information by providing access to computers, books and e-books.

Also to the convenience of the community, the library will offer much-needed fax and photocopying facilities.

Maile who is the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and Mogale City Ward 5 Councillor Neo Mosetle took part in an unveiling ceremony to open the library officially.

Maile urged resident to take care of the library and the facilities on offer and emphasised that the library belonged to the community.

“We know that for our economy to grow and to flourish we need youth who received the education and skills such as those provided by the library,” he concluded
