Chefs in the making

Twelve offenders of the Krugersdorp Correctional Facility have obtained a cooking certificate.

Twelve newly graduated chefs are ready to bring delicious food to the table.

These chefs, who are doing time at the Krugersdorp Correctional Facility, each obtained a Certificate in Professional Cookery after successfully graduating with a Level 1 in Bosasa’s basic catering course.

Christopher Feane, a catering trainer at Bosasa says the centre trains offenders at Correctional Facilities nationwide to help them gain skills.

“The offenders learn the basics of preparing food and one day can use these skills to the benefit of the community.”

He speaks proudly of the offenders to whom he refer as his students and says all have done exceptionally well during the six months the programme was offered.

“Not one of the students got less than 60 per cent – I am especially proud of one of the students who passed with 95 per cent.”

All the students will progress to Level 2, a more advanced course in food preparation.

Christopher says several offenders already are working as chefs.
