Crime fighter by day, bookworm by night
A Krugersdorp detective's passion for studying inspires her co-workers in the force.
When the sun sets and most people put their feet up after a day of work, Krugersdorp Police member Sergeant Clarise Motshwene takes off her hat as an officer of the law and moves in behind her textbooks.
Her colleagues say that her passion for studying is almost contagious and that members from across the force draw inspiration from her hunger to learn.
She has worn an academic gown many times and her list of educational achievements compares to very little of her coworkers.
Motshwene first joined the force in December 2002 and became a constable. She worked her way up and in 2011 she was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
In April 2011 she graduated from a course in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Justice at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and a course in Policing at the University of South Africa (Unisa).
In April 2012 she obtained a BTech degree in Forensic Investigation.
Less than a year later she obtained a BTech degree in Police Science and currently she is studying towards a Diploma in Project Management while also working to obtain her master’s degree in Forensic Investigation from Unisa.
Her long-term goal is to obtain a PhD four years from now.
In the meantime she carries her detective badge with pride and speaks proudly of the SAPS and her role within the service.
