Swimming pools to be upgraded

Work will be done on the swimming pools in Kagiso, Azaadville, Krugersdorp West and at Coronation as tabled in the 2014/2015 budget speech.

Local residents’ dream to see their children splashing in a public swimming pool might soon be a reality.

This was the indication given by Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Executive Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane during the 2014/2015 budget speech.

“The municipality has set aside R68 million for rehabilitation, refurbishment and upgrade of sports and recreation facilities in the next two years, which will see work being done on the swimming pools in Kagiso, Azaadville, Krugersdorp West and at Coronation.”

The news has visited the swimming pools of Azaadville and Krugersdorp-West in the past and was told that there are plans to upgrade it.

Various other municipal services and property that were neglected in the past few years have also been included for improvement.

The municipality has set aside R68 million for rehabilitation, refurbishment and upgrade of sports and recreation facilities in the next two years, which will see work being done on the swimming pools in Kagiso, Azaadville, Krugersdorp West and at Coronation.

The sports complexes of Ga-Mogale, Lusaka, Muldersdrift, Kagiso and others will benefit from this allocation.

“We have budgeted R46 million on parks management projects for the medium term. The bulk of this investment will go towards replacing fences in the Krugersdorp Game Reserve. We will build a new road network as well as put up new fencing at the Sterkfontein Cemetery – we also will fence the Burgershoop Cemetery and electrify all the rural cemeteries,” says Seerane.

He adds that the municipality will be spending close to R8 million over the next three years to stock the city’s libraries with books as well as improving their book security systems.
