As parts of Mogale City enter a fourth day without water today (18 September), residents’ patience is starting to run dry.
Because of low water pressure residents in some areas had a few drops of water when opening their taps, and could only do the basics.
Issues were attributed to an electrical outage on Eskom’s side that disabled a Rand Water pump station in Eikenhof.
The main concern and reason for fury was that the local municipality mentioned in a statement that it would not be able to provide water tankers as all areas including neighbouring Randfontein, Westonaria and Johannesburg are affected.
Promises were made on Monday 15 September that water would be restored within a day.
“Rand Water expects water supply to be restored between this evening and tomorrow,” the statement reads.
Consumers were requested to limit water consumption for the duration of the interruption … that’s if they had any water to limit consumption of.
Rand Water later announced on Wednesday (17 September) that electricity had been restored and that it would take some time for “their system time to recover for normal supply to be restored in all areas…” and apologised for the inconvenience.
Krugersdorp residents took to social media with the following comments:
Chantal Meugens: Gosh this is ridiculous! What really gets to me is the amount of times we have problems with water in our area. It’s not normal I’m sure!
Lucille Smit: I am so tired of the water problems in Krugersdorp. Last year this time the reservoirs burst and exactly now a year later we are without water again.
Sue Mcdermott in Featherbrooke: They keep watering gardens, don’t care there is a water crisis
