Municipality: water fully restored
The Mogale City Local Municipality says they finally managed to restore water to Kenmare and Noordheuwel.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has restored water fully to Kenmare and Noordheuwel, the last areas remaining after three weeks of water disruptions that affected 30 per cent of the city.
Nkosana Zali, municipal spokesperson says yesterday evening 5 October the Kenmare Reservoir stood at 3,75m whilst the sump was at 3,4m.
“We had every reason to be enthusiastic about work that was being done, even though the reality on the ground was that water pressure remained a challenge for households.”
He says on warmer days these reading would be hovering around or below 2,5 metres.
After getting the latest readings this morning, Zali says the Kenmare Reservoir and sump have gone above 5m and 3,4m respectively, which means that there is now adequate water in the system. This also means that all areas will have sufficient pressure or normal water supply.
Zali says the municipality and Rand Water extend their apologies for the inconvenience caused to residents since 16 September.
“We also want to thank the team for working around the clock to ensure that we fully restore water to the affected areas. This has been an arduous journey that divided but later united us as a community.”
The municipality will meet with Nomvula Mokonyane (Minister of Water and Sanitation), David Makhura (Gauteng Premier) and Rand Water tomorrow morning 7 October at 10am. They will discuss plans to prevent a recurrence in future.
“We also want to repeat the call to ward councillors in the affected areas of Kenmare and Noordheuwel to continue to report isolated cases of low pressure to the Manager: Water and Sanitation so that we can investigate and give them individual attention.”
This morning at 7am the readings were as follows:
• Kenmare Reservoir 5,53m
• The Dome 1,13m
• Kenmare Towers 3,63m
• Factoria 4,02m
• Noordheuwel Tower 6,00m
• Rangeview 2,03m
• Sump 3,47m
