Well-known Krugersdorp takeaway outlet Moon Café’s owners are suffering financial losses running into thousands following the theft of fuses at an electricity distribution board in Eloff Street.
For the past 60 years Moon Café has been one of the busiest takeaway shops in Krugersdorp. Current manager Johnny Delima who has been captaining the ship for the last nine years believes in giving his customers only the best of service.
The past six month however have been a battle and Delima has had to turn customers away because of electricity cuts.
“The electricity constantly drops to a single phase and my fryers and fridges all work on three-phase electricity. Without full power supply I cannot cook,” he explains.
In addition Delima has had to replace fans twice in the last six months, an expense he did not budget for.
“I pay my municipal bills, why must I cough up for the criminal acts that jeopardise supply?” he asks rhetorically.
Delima and his employees have gone as far as keeping watch to catch the thieves in the act “but municipal and criminal justice authorities only have been a letdown in taking the matter further,” he says.
Thousands of phone calls to all Mogale City emergency numbers only caused the local business owner more frustration as his calls never get answered.
Delima is of the opinion that the fuses get stolen because it contains a substance used to manufacture drugs.
He pleads with municipal authorities to secure the distribution board or act against the thieves … that is if they don’t want to be turned away when they stop for a Russian and chips on their next lunch break.
