Krugersdorpers deserve better

Poverty, it is said, is not a crime. Poor people do not ask to be in a position where they are at the mercy of others.

Residents of informal settlements often cite corruption on the part of public officials or contractors hired by government.

“They implicate officials who manipulate lists or accept bribes from people who want to jump the queue,” says PR councillor for the DA Boitumelo Mangena.

To date thousands of beneficiaries are still without title deeds and houses.

“Poverty, it is said, is not a crime. Poor people do not ask to be in a position where they are at the mercy of others.

“No parent wants to watch their children grow up in a room at the back of someone else’s home. Illegal occupancy of RDP houses is a serious problem facing not only Mogale City, but many other communities across South Africa.”

Mangena says the government has done very little to reduce corruption in South Africa and the decline in good governance cannot be allowed to persist.

“The Democratic Alliance has committed itself to a zero tolerance policy to corruption where we govern in the Western Cape and the rest of South Africa.

“The City of Cape Town for example, received its tenth consecutive unqualified audit – a record for a Metropolitan Council in South Africa. The DA is campaigning to govern more municipalities in 2016 because we believe that the rest of South Africa deserves better,” ends Mangena.
