Reservoir runs dry – again

The Kenmare Reservoir has run empty again after an electrical switch on the pumps allegedly tripped.

Disgruntled residents of Krugersdorp have taken their annoyance with the ongoing water disruptions to social media.

Residents explain they have been struggling with water supply again since last week Thursday; this time also in areas such as Mindalore and Breaunanda.

Over the weekend residents from Noordheuwel, Kenmare and Rant-en-Dal started complaining again that they had little to no water supply.

This comes after areas such as Noordheuwel, Kenmare and Rant-en-Dal had been without water for almost three weeks when power supply to Rand Water’s Eikenhof reservoir was lost and reservoirs in the city ran dry.

Nkosana Zali, spokesperson for Mogale City Local Municipality says they are working to restore the water supply to these areas.

“We lost supply to the Kenmare Reservoir on the evening of 18 October. This resulted in the reservoir going empty.”

The municipality got numerous complaints from Noordheuwel residents about their not getting water.

“Upon investigation it was found that the pumps to the reservoir had tripped and we are investigating the cause of this. However, the pumps were restarted and the reservoir began to fill up.”

He says by 8.20pm the Kenmare Reservoir readings were at 2,01 metres while the flow was at 44,17 – an improvement since the pumps were started earlier yesterday afternoon.

Although he says the full supply to most areas should have been back to normal at around 11pm last night (19 October) residents already phoned the news offices informing us that some areas still do not have water.

“The high-lying areas will continue to have low pressure for a day and then will be brought to normal. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
