Final round of drags at raceway

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Pieter de Wit, all the way from Australia, to show off some of his newly attained jet dragster pilot skills in the famous Tarlton J34 Westinghouse jet dragster.

Sunday 26 October will see the final SA National Drag Racing Championship round unfold with Fast Fest, a speed spectacular.

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action-packed racing as the 2014 racing season draws to a close with Round 6 at Tarlton International Raceway.

Spectators can expect lots of live music entertainment with some of SA’s top DJs, including a spectacular bikini fashion show, extreme FMX stunt riders, bikers bike wash, sound off competition with a show and shine area, along with the classic cars, superbikes and supercars display area.

Dragside spectators will be guaranteed some awesome racing action with competition runs among some of the fastest drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator category showcases drivers such as the A-Class Dragster pilots Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel (Whiplash).

Top alcohol funny car pilots Werner Conradie and Nico van Rensburg (Lethal Weapon) will devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing on the day. These top eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of six to seven seconds at over 300km/h over the quarter mile. Bringing everything to the fight will be Gavin Wilkins (SpeedNSound/SpeedPro/SKF Mustang) to keep his championship points lead over the rest of the SKF Senior Eliminator arsenal.

Biker fans also will be spoiled with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders such as Wayne Heasman (Suzuki), Jerry Lombard (Suzuki), Zafar Hoosen (Suzuki), Shaun and Bertus Breedt (Suzukis) who will offer stiff competition in the SS-Bikes class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey (BMW S1000RR), Jesaja Lombard (Suzuki), Peet Viviers (Suzuki) and Leonard Roberts (Suzuki) will battle it out among the bikers field to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Pieter de Wit, all the way from Australia, to show off some of his newly attained jet dragster pilot skills in the famous Tarlton J34 Westinghouse jet dragster. This beast of a machine is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400km/h over a quarter mile, which you cannot afford to miss. Joining in the exhibition fun will be Marius Coetzee in the Leyland Matador, 12-litre twin turbo V8 drag truck along with Shaun Watson in the turbocharged Ford Cargo V8 drag truck.

Tickets are on sale at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R120 for adults and R50 for children aged 6-12 years old or at Computicket in advance. Tarlton has loads of free parking and take-away food and refreshments available at the venue. The gates will open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday 2 November.
