Lodirile Secondary's soccer boys crowned district champs
History was made on the soccer field as Lodirile Secondary School conquered the Gauteng West D2 District.
Lodirile Secondary School has achieved a major milestone after its U19 soccer team was crowned Kay Motsepe Gauteng West D2 District Champions.
The impressive achievement comes after a determined campaign on August 15, in which the players demonstrated exceptional teamwork, discipline and resilience against strong opposition.
Lodirile’s journey included a memorable comeback against Hoërskool Carletonville at Carleton Jones High School, while their encounter with TM Letlhake Secondary School provided another stern test. The team continued to show composure and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
A standout moment came when Kamogelo Dabuka produced a stunning free kick, while the team’s goalkeeper delivered a heroic performance in the final, saving three penalties before stepping up to score the decisive penalty.
Coach Thato Mathibe said the achievement was a proud moment for the entire school and community.
“I’m overwhelmed with pride. To see the boys win after everything we’ve been through is an indescribable feeling. They deserve every bit of this because they always work hard every day to win every game. We didn’t win as individuals; we played as a team, and we won as a team,” he said.
Mathibe also credited the players’ unity and fighting spirit for making the difference throughout the competition.
“Nobody played for themselves. They played for the badge, they played for the school, and they played for the community. Everyone defended, everyone attacked, and that selflessness helped us win this championship,” he said.
The championship is a proud moment not only for Lodirile but also for the Swaneville community, with the players’ success reflecting the hard work of the coaching staff, school management, teachers, parents and supporters.
The district title also earns Lodirile the opportunity to represent Gauteng West District at the Regional Championships, where they will face another challenge as they continue their pursuit of success.
