Rumour has it that the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) is overcharging its residents on their electricity usage.
It is believed that the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) is currently investigating the matter. It is still unclear what action will be taken should the municipality be found guilty and how rates-and-taxes payers will be refunded.
Municipalities that sell electricity to their community all have to apply the same tariffs that have to be approved by Nersa.
Mogale City has yet to comment about the situation.
The news is following up the matter and will keep its readers posted.
