It seems like it might be a joyous Monday as Eskom confirmed that there will be no load shedding today.
In areas where power outages do occur today those interruptions only will be the ones scheduled and communicated in advance by the municipality.
As a precautionary measure the news obtained a load-shedding schedule from Mogale City Local Municipality for the week up until Sunday 30 November.
Eskom implemented load shedding on Friday 21 November after experiencing pressure on its network. At the beginning of the month a coal silo at the Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga collapsed, contributing to the power utility’s distribution woes.
Last week trade union Solidarity warned that another silo is showing signs of deterioration at the Majuba Power Station. The latter remains the newest and largest power plant in the country until such time as construction work at the Medupi and Kusile Power Stations – that has been suffering numerous delays – eventually is completed.
