Update on Coronation Park upgrade
Residents of Krugersdorp can expect great things for the park.
Coronation Park has been the scene of many a heartache these past few months as the last of the approximately 300 mainly white squatters were removed from the premises legally in December.
Judging from the bulldozers and construction trucks on site it seems it was not all for nothing.
Nkosana Zali, Mogale City Municipality spokesperson said the R22 million upgrade to the park will include resurfacing the roads painting the palisade fencing, of which the latter already has been completed. The budget covers reconstructing the entrance point, a playground, animal farm, picnic sites, fountains and improved landscaping. He said the project will continue until 2018 when the residents of Krugersdorp can expect to enjoy the new and improved park.
Some members of a facebook group called Stories of Krugersdorp remember Coronation Park in its heyday with fond memories.
“My dad taught all us kids to drive there, the roads inside the park were perfect places to practice!” says Debbie Lewarne who now lives in Chingola, Zambia.
Gill Kewney said like many other couples, she and her husband had their wedding photos taken there.
Let us know in the comments section below of your fond memories of Coronation Park. We would love to hear from you.
