\They might be the new kids on the block, but Curro Krugersdorp has hosted a successful inter-primary athletics event recently.
About 700 children grazed the athletics field when five other schools from the West Rand joined Curro and participated in the day’s events.
The schools were Monument Primary, St Ursula’s School, Thusong Primary School, John Martin Catholic School and Atlholang Primary School.

Ettienne Kok, sport coordinator at Curro said they were really very happy and excited about being offered the opportunity to host their first inter-primary athletics event as it is not only a way of getting children to stay active but it is also a way for them as a school to build a relationship with the other schools in the area.
“The day was a huge success. Although it was hot and everyone wished for some rain, I think it was well attended and well organised.”
He said Rawson Properties, a main sponsor, ensured that everyone on the field stayed hydrated with iced water lollies.
“It was really a great hounour for us to be able to host this,” Ettienne said.
A total of 18 different items such as high jump, shot put, running and hurdles took place and Curro taking about 50 podium places.
Some of the great achievements includes that of under 12 high jump athlete Tristan Botha (Monument Primary), who improved his record by obtaining a personal best, jumping a height of 1,41 metres.
Fellow pupils Odirile Mogwere and Thandi Mzandro have done exceptionally well in the 200 and 100 metres respectively.
Jasper Okabme and Matthew Olivier from Curro have respectively outdone themselves in the 60 metre an shot put events.
